Crochet Sunflower Granny Square

Supplies Needed:

Yarn: Ice Yarns Lorena Worsted

Crochet hook:  size 4.00 mm

Abbreviations:

dc – double crochet

ch – chain

tr – treble crochet

ss – slip stitch

Special Stitches:

Puff Stitch: *yarn over and insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop (as if you were going to do a double crochet), you now have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch and pull up another loop (5 loops on hook) repeat from * 1 more times until you have 7 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Secure with a chain stitch.

Cluster Stitch: *yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook* repeat * to * 3 more times, yarn over, pull through all 5 loops on hook.

Pattern:

R-1. Ch4, ss to 1st ch to join and form a ring. 

ch3 (counts as dc), 15dc into the ring. 

Ss to top of initial ch3 of the round. 

Ch1 and cut yarn leaving decent length tail to weave in. (16 dc total)

R-2 Join new colour to top of any dc from round below. 

Ch2, puff into same stitch. 

Puff in remaining 15 stitches from the round below. 

Ss in-between 1st and 2nd Puff of the round. 

Ch1 and cut yarn leaving decent length tail to weave in. (16 puffs total)

R-3 Join new colour in between any of your puff stitches from the round below. 

Ch2, cluster stitch into same space. (16 cluster stitch )

R-4 Join new colour to any ch2 space from the round below. Ch4 (counts as tr), 2tr into same space.

Then working into the ch2 spaces from the round below: 3dc, 3hdc, 3dc (side formed)

In next ch2 space: 3tr, Ch2, 3tr (corner formed)

Then working into the ch2 spaces from the round below: 3dc, 3hdc, 3dc (side formed)

In next ch2 space: 3tr, Ch2, 3tr (corner formed)

Then working into the ch2 spaces from the round below: 3dc, 3hdc, 3dc (side formed)

In next ch2 space: 3tr, Ch2, 3tr (corner formed)

Then working into the ch2 spaces from the round below: 3dc, 3hdc, 3dc (side formed)

To end the round, work 3tr into the very first ch space where you first joined your yarn, ch2 and ss to the top of the initial ch4. Ch1 and cut your yarn leaving a decent tail to weave in.
