How to Slip Stitch (sl st)

Slip stitch is one of the most basic and essential crochet stitches. It’s commonly used for joining rounds, finishing projects, and creating a smooth edge. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you master the slip stitch.

Materials Needed:

Yarn: Any type will do, but for beginners, a medium-weight yarn (like worsted weight) is easiest to work with.
Crochet Hook: Use a hook size that matches your yarn. Typically, a size H/8 (5mm) hook is good for medium-weight yarn.

Starting the Slip Stitch:

Insert your hook into the desired stitch. For practice, you can start with the second chain from the hook.
Yarn over and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook in one motion. You have completed one slip stitch.

Continue Slip Stitching:

Repeat the process in each chain across the row:
Insert the hook into the next chain.
Yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook.

Finishing Off:

Once you’ve reached the end of your row, you can finish off your work by cutting the yarn, leaving a small tail.
Pull the yarn through the last loop on your hook and tighten to secure.

Happy crocheting!
